Letters

Here I will post some of my favorite letters to editors.
  • Wayne White, in Water Education and Water Use (CVR Mar. 17, 2009)  points out that our water usage stats have improved and now look good so water meters would not be needed.  He gives credit to water education.
  • Wayne White, in Water use per capita down 23% (CVE Jan. 22, 2010)  says: This all means that the projected reduction in water demand from water metering is no longer available because they have already been realized. You can’t reasonably expect a further 27% reduction from metering when people’s water use behavior has already changed.
  • Dave Mcleod: Common sense has paddled off (CVE June 4, 2010) is an amusing letter pointing out that as BCHydro was releasing water for kayakers, the RD was imposing severe water restrictions.
  • Heather Hallett:  Politicians raving mad over Valley's water use (CVR Aug. 4, 2010) talks about how silly it is to have severe water restrictions when we live in a rain forest.
  • The editor adds a comment that the RD CAO Debra Oakman says that the restrictions are due to infrastructure limitations.  That is nonsense.  We used more water in 2003 than lately and have added reservoir capacity since then.  Forcing us to all water on the same few hours twice a week actually puts more demand on the system then spreading it out.
  • Gordon Grant: Comox pushing meters despite facts (CVE Aug. 24, 2010) points out that the RD had exaggerated our water use and that we compare very well.  However, Comox is still pushing for water meters and has since spent a great deal of money on them.  All without having resolved the water price for residents.
  • Stan Hodgson: Comox Valley Regional District arrogant about water (CVR June 23, 2011)  He was upset about the water rate increase of $100/yr. that was imposed on Area B users.  The Record left out much of [Stan's full letter].  The RD explained, but not clearly, that the increase was to help pay for water meters  .
