Propaganda

The RD has made many claims about our water use and other matters that have turned out to be false.  Here I will post the published material.
  • The meter is ticking Regional District fears loss of government grants unless it shows willingness to move [here]
Philip Round of the Echo reports on the RD board meeting of March, 2009.  The article refers to claims that we might miss out on government grants if we don't move on the water metering issue.
It also said that the water efficiency plan will be drawn up "including strict targets for reductions being sought by the province in view of the huge consumption of water by local residents and businesses"
The article goes on to say "The Comox Valley is said to have one of the highest water consumption figures per person in the world"
All of the above statements are false.
  • Going down the drain [here]
The editor of the Record put this as the main editorial on June 24, 2009.  It says we are "one of the highest per-capita water users in B.C., if not Canada.
    The editorial says
    • "They're being forced to consider stronger measures." and
    • "Yes, our wasteful ways might invoke the water police" and
    • "we routinely draw more water from Comox Lake than we are allowed to by our licence from Victoria.   This is false, we have an agreement with BC Hydro to use some of their licence water for a modest fee (the value of the power they may have produced)
